Inspection of the position and height of the pins in a connector is very complicated with traditional 2D methods because there are no way of arranging the cameras to get a clear view of all pins.

The solution is high speed 3D vision with SICK | IVP Ranger. A height map of the pins is acquired from the top view of the connector, the 3D-map is then analyzed to calculate X, Y and Z coordinates of the connector pins.
